Punjabi Community Health Centre
Purpose:
- The Punjabi Community Health Centre (PCHC) was established to meet the
social, economic, cultural, recreational, research and educational needs of
the South Asian community in the GTA, including the Region of Peel;
- PCHC establishes programs after undertaking Participatory Action Research
within the community;
- PCHC uses community development as a strategy to develop capacities
within the community to meet the challenges of, and find solutions for, the
identified problems;
Objectives:
- Initiate and implement programs to promote and develop interpersonal
relationships and greater integration among different ethnic communities;
- Establish community outreach programs in the Region of Peel;
- Hold seminars on different issues and problems pertaining to seniors,
women, youth and children;
- Develop culturally-sensitive, acceptable and appropriate resources,
including translation services, in the community;
- Promote activities which enhance and contribute to the happiness and
well-being of its members;
- Promote activities that build social capital in the community;
- Provide counselling programs for men with alcohol and violence-related
issues;
- Develop capacities within the Punjabi community to address its problems
using a community development approach;
- Organize a seniors' celebration of Unforgettable Memories.
Target population:
Immigrants, refugees and residents of the GTA, and the Region of Peel, with
an additional emphasis on the south Asian community.
